Although most of the time I only post my work, this time i thought i should show some images of my holidays. The lovely time spent in Portugal, the country I was born, and the lovely landscapes it has and it´s culture...

Gem setting contest

This month I received excellent news....I was the winner of this year contest organized by the Scottish Gemological Association.
Este mes recebi excelentes noticias...eu fui a vencedora do concurso organizado pela Associacao Escocesa de Gemologia.

This was my piece...and the winning piece.
Esta foi a minha peca...e a peca vencedora.

Do you know that in the ancient folklore stories, the birds brought the news to the people in their wings?
Você sabe que nos contos antigos, as aves traziam as notícias para as pessoas nas suas asas?

Using the word morning as my inspiration, I researched the ancient folklore stories. Inspired by the birds, their wings and beautiful colours, I played with the shape of their wings, and created a piece…mixing, shaping used paper and cutting it to give the piece dimension.
Usando a palavra manhã como minha inspiração, pesquisei em contos antigos. Inspirado pelas aves, suas asas e cores bonitas, eu joguei com a forma das suas asas, e criei uma peca... misturando, moldando papel usado e cortando-o para dar a dimensão a peca.


I created a bracelet, full of words, news and stories...
Criei uma pulseira, cheia de palavras, notícias e histórias ...

Is going to be held the Craft Festival Scotland between May-June in Dundee University.
Vai ser realizado o Festival de Artesanato Escocia entre Maio-Junho na Universidade de Dundee.

Due to the event, students were asked to create a jewellery pop-up ring in paper or plastic, which will be offered to all visitors.
Devido ao evento, foi perguntado aos alunos de joalharia para criarem um anel em papel ou plástico, que será oferecido a todos os visitantes.

This was my ring design.

With Craft and Prototype being the subject of the Craft Festival Scotland 2010, bringing 12 world wide speakers together, I used the globe shape and blend the C of Craft and P of Prototype together in a ring, with simple folding.
Com Artesanato e Protótipo a ser o tema do Festival de Artesanato Escócia 2010, reunindo 12 palestrantes do mundo, eu usei a forma do globo e misturei o C do Artesanato e P do Protótipo em um anel, com dobradura simples.

The aim of my project was create something that you can play with.Something with simple forms, easy to use and accessible to all.
O objectivo do meu projecto era criar algo que você pode "brincar" com. Algo com formas simples, fácil de usar e acessível a todos.

It started in Spain and in 1947, with the participation of around 4,000 apprentices from a dozen mechanical trades.
In 1950 took place the first Iberian Competition, with the participation of 12 young skilled workers from Portugal and Spain. The International Vocational Training Competitions were ready to start.

Tudo começou na Espanha em 1947, com a participação de cerca de 4.000 aprendizes de uma dezena de ofícios mecânicos.
Em 1950 teve lugar a primeira competição ibérica, com a participação de 12 jovens trabalhadores qualificados de Portugal e Espanha. As Competições Internacionais de Formação Profissional estavam prontas a começar.

A great number of observers from various countries were invited to the Iberian Competition and were completely seduced by the idea.

Um grande número de observadores de vários países foram convidados para a competição ibérica e foram completamente seduzidos pela idéia.

As a result, in 1953, at Spain's invitation, youngsters from Germany, Great Britain, France, Morocco and Switzerland took part in it for the first time.
The idea proves to be successful.

Como resultado, em 1953, a convite da Espanha, jovens da Alemanha, Grã-Bretanha, França, Marrocos e Suíça participaram pela primeira vez.A idéia prova ser um sucesso.

The idea to celebrate Vocational Training Competitions can be rightfully compared to Pierre de Coubertin´s initiative to create the modern Olympic Games. Also its motto "great ideas come from the heart" can be applied to the founders of our International Organisation.

A idéia de comemorar Competições de Formação pode ser legitimamente comparada à iniciativa de Pierre de Coubertin para criar os Jogos Olímpicos modernos. Também o seu lema "as grandes idéias vêm do coração" pode ser aplicada aos fundadores da nossa Organização Internacional.

Nowadays, if you visit a WorldSkills Competition, you will be pleased to see the young skilled workers' know-how and seriousness, their pride on having been selected and the pleasure they feel to meet their counterparts from other continents. In spite of language barriers, the experience they gain will certainly affect the professional, personal and human aspects of their lives forever.

Hoje em dia, se visitar uma competição WorldSkills, terá o prazer de ver os jovens trabalhadores qualificados, a sua seriedade, o seu orgulho em ter sido selecionado e o prazer que eles sentem em conhecer os seus homólogos de outros continentes. A cada dois anos centenas de jovens qualificados, acompanhados pelos seus professores e formadores, se reúnem para competir diante do público nas competências dos seus vários ofícios e testarem-se contra os exigentes padrões internacionais. Eles representam o melhor da sua area nas competições regionais e nacionais, realizada actualmente em 52 países / regiões.

The experience and results of all the competitions provide valuable feedback both to the individuals and the systems and enterprises in which they are being trained. For some it is recognition for outstanding achievement, while for others it provides the motivation and knowledge to aspire to higher standards. For the onlookers it is a revealing experience to see highly competent young trades people in action.
A experiência e os resultados de todas as competições fornecem um feedback valioso, tanto para os indivíduos, como para as empresas em que eles são treinados. Para alguns, é o reconhecimento para a realização proeminente, enquanto que para outros fornece a motivação e conhecimento para aspirar a níveis mais elevados. Para os espectadores é uma experiência reveladora, ver as pessoas altamente competentes em acção.

I was in 2007 at Worldskills Competition in Japan, and as I said before "It a fantastic and enriching experience!"

Eu estive em 2007 na Competição, no Japão, e como eu disse antes "É uma experiência fantástica e enriquecedora!"

WorldSkills London will be held at the ExCeL exhibition and conference centre in London’s docklands from 5th - 8th October 2011. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in the most exciting, inclusive and inspirational WorldSkills Competition ever.

WorldSkills Londres será realizada no centro de exposições e conferências ExCeL, em Docklands Londres de 5 - 8 de Outubro de 2011. Há muitas oportunidades para envolver-se na mais excitante, abrangente e inspiradora competição da WorldSkills de sempre.

The Story of the “Fiances Kerchiefs”
A historia dos "Lenços dos namorados"

The origin of “fiancés kerchiefs” is thought to date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and was adapted by the woman of the people who made use of them when they aspired to win their fiancés hearts.
A origem dos “lenços de namorados”, pensa-se que data aos séculos 17 e 18 e foi adaptada pela mulher do povo, que fez uso deles quando aspirava ganhar o coração dos seus noivos.

These proposal wraps represented, to some extent, the proof of the embroiders devotion towards the men they were in love with and were, for such a purpose, offered to them.
Those declarations were rarely unaccepted so the engaged boys would then make their engagement public by wearing the kerchiefs over their Sunday best suit or as neckerchiefs so that they could openly be shown off.
Estes lenços representavam, em certa medida, a prova da devoção das bordadeiras para com os homens que amavam e eram, para tal finalidade, lhes oferecidos.Estas declarações eram raramente recusadas, então os homens envolvidos iriam tornar a sua relação pública, através do uso dos lenços sobre o seu melhor fato de domingo ou com lenço de pescoço, para que pudessemser mostrados.

Everything was done on account of the fantasies: love, which seemed to be the direct cause of those rich and effusive artisan items.Regards decorative outlines, their primitive symbology has remained and has been spreading.
Tudo foi feito por conta das fantasias: amor, que parecia ser a causa directa desses ricos e efusivos artigos artesanais. Apesar do aspecto decorativo, a simbologia primitiva manteve-se e foi-se espalhando.

The development of my piece was made by trying to get simple forms, colours, poems from the embroideries and playing with it.
O desenvolvimento da minha peça foi feito a tentar obter formas simples, cores, poemas dos bordados e jogar com eles.

My main idea was to express and convey the story contained in embroidery.

Using the traditional, but mixing it with the modern techniques, creating a contemporary piece.
A minha idéia principal era expressar e transmitir a história contida em bordados

Utilizando a tradicional, mas misturando-o com as técnicas modernas, criando uma peça contemporânea.

Change of consciousness, reuse!

When I came to the uni I thought I would learn about jewellery design, but it was more than that ... I learned about different cultures / people, the environment...to have a different consciousness to the problems.
Quando vim para a universidade, pensei que iria aprender sobre design de jóias, mas foi mais do que isso ... Eu aprendi sobre as diferentes culturas / pessoas, o ambiente ... a ter uma consciência diferente para os problemas.

This led me to a different way of working. Working with conscience, trying to reuse materials, incorporating them into my pieces.So last year i started to search for products made with reused materials.
Isso levou-me a uma forma diferente de trabalhar. Trabalhar com consciência, tentando reutilizar materiais, incorporando-os nas minhas peças. Portanto no ano passado, comecei a procurar produtos feitos com materiais reutilizados.

I got some ideas and i started to do wallets reusing materials. They are made with carton milk box, which is not recycled in Dundee, less rubbish, and old Beano comic books, bought in 2nd hand shops or 2nd hand fairs.
Eu tive algumas idéias e comecei a fazer carteiras reutilizando materiais. Elas são feitas com embalagens de pacotes de leite, que não é reciclado em Dundee, menos lixo, e livros de banda desenhada Beano em 2a mão, comprados em lojas ou feiras de 2a mão.

I started to do some ladies bags made with the Beano comic books too, plastic bags and old fabrics.

Comecei a fazer malas de Senhora com os livros do Beano também, sacos plásticos e tecidos velhos.

We receive and see so many information about the planet and climate change, that I wanted to change and start to do something. This is one of the ways that i found.

Recebemos e vemos tantas informações sobre o planeta e as alterações climáticas, que eu queria mudar e começar a fazer alguma coisa. Esta é uma das maneiras que eu encontrei.
